A shameless matter of law

Re: "Unlike other countries, shame doesn't 'work' in Thai politics", Letters, November 2.

I salute A Johnsen for being so candid and sharp in his observations. His two examples in Scandinavia reflect the high moral ground of those countries.
Well, Mr Johnsen, not only do some Thais lack shame, they are unaware of the wrongs. Many regard the law as the only measuring stick. If they’ve broken no law or the law isn’t clear, they’re free from guilt, and thus shame. To be ashamed, one needs to know one is wrong. Thanks to Steve Jobs, social networking and common camera use will help lift our moral standards.
