Thai teachers spend an average of 42 per cent – or 84 weekdays out of the annual 200 working days – in outside-class activities and tasks such as assessments, academic competitions and training, a recent survey found.
Investing heavily in education each year seems to have brought us enough teachers, but they have insufficient time to teach their students.
As a result students are losing opportunities for classroom learning each day.
Some might argue that these out-of-class activities improve teaching skills and are thus a good use of their time but, if that is true, why does the students’ educational performance remain at such a low level in terms of both national and international quality assessment?
