Mind you, Gubgib hasn’t yet landed any leading roles, but she’s certainly putting everything she’s got into her bit parts, including several comedic turns that other actresses would shun because they don’t want to look “silly”. Gubgib ends up making such roles unforgettable.
Since breaking up with Mario, Gubgib’s cheerful personality has been a magnet for more guys, most notably singer Thassapak “Bie KPN” Hsu, who’s admitted he has a crush on her and is trying to win her heart. Gubgib in turn told the press that they’re only just getting to know one another, but they have indeed been posting sweet pictures from their dates on Instagram.
“He’s like a new experience to my life,” Gubgib says. “I’ve never met a man like him before. He’s cute and I’m happy! I’m not hiding anything from the public – sooner or later you’ll know all about it.”
She denied, however, that her popularity among guys is the reason she’s raised her fee for promoting commercial products. She’s simply charging an appropriate rate for someone who’s by now been in showbiz for several years, she says. What’s love got to do with it?
Child lizard makes good
It’s been a sensational year for young thespian Jirayu “Kao” La-ongmanee, winning every best-actor prize Thailand has to offer. The most recent trophy arrived at the Kom Chad Luek Awards for his role as timid orphan Tukkae, who yearns to be a filmmaker in “Tukkae Rak Pang Mak”, aka “Chiang Khan Story”.
Kao thanked director Yuthlert Sippapak and the team and pledged to keep honing his skills.
The 19-year-old is already quite skilful, of course, having made his acting debut at age six in TV serials and commercials, and we all remember him especially from “Fah Krajarng Dao”, which he starred in as a 10-year-old. His appearances in the movies “Haa Phrang” (“Phobia 2”) when he was 14 and “Last Summer” last year both earned major award nominations.
Kao has clearly beaten the child-actor curse by transitioning smoothly into more grown-up roles.
Yuthlert has said that “Tukkae Rak Pang Mak” was the film he most wanted to make after being so disappointed when the producer of his previous movie, the Deep South drama “Fatherland”, declined to release it because of political sensitivities.
Yuthlert asked hot actor Nadech Kugimiya to play Tukkae, but Nadech’s mother didn’t care for the “weird and unattractive” title, which translates as “Gecko loves Pang”. She didn’t want people calling her son a lizard, and Yuthlert refused to change the character’s name.
And that’s why the role fell into Kao’s lap. Go ahead and call him a lizard – the lizard with all the bright, shiny acting awards.
