No denying the danger

FRIDAY, MAY 08, 2015

Cycling is a good and safe exercise that's popular among health-conscious people, but riding on the highway is very dangerous.

The average cycling speed is 20-25kph, while automobiles on the highway average 80-90kph. Many a time I have blurted out an exclamation (it wasn’t “Oh dear!”) while driving around a bend and suddenly confronting slow-moving cyclists taking up half my lane. And it seems that the cyclists aren’t bothered at all when a 30-tonne 18-wheeler whizzes by them at 90kph.
If nothing is done, we will hear about more fatal accidents involving cyclists and vehicles, driven by both drunk and sober drivers.
