Ton Hom still managed to get the reporters laughing.
The day after Tack declared in an interview that he and Ton Hom were now defunct as a couple, Ton Hom summoned a press conference to get her side of the story out officially, for all to hear. It was a weepy little affair, but at the end she was giggling when she said anyone who feels like cursing them for the failure of their relationship ought to direct the hex at her ex. “I don’t deserve it,” she snorted, and the press laughed along with her.
So, for the benefit of ill-intentioned witches and warlocks reading this, let’s compare his version of the break-up to hers.
Tack is now based in Chiang Mai, taking care of his family business, and said he’s too far from Bangkok to keep the relationship going. Yes, he admitted, his flirtatious behaviour also has something to do with the split, but there’s no third party involved.
Ton Hom said she was the one who called off the romance when she found out he’d cheated on her yet again. “I learned this from a good friend of 10 years,” she blubbered. “I begged my friend to tell me the truth, and when I learned the truth I broke up with him.”
We doubt either one of them is getting any sort of compensation package from their ex, but at least Ton Hom still has her sense of humour. A reporter asked whether she’d ever consider appearing again with Tack at a marketing event, as they’ve done in the past. Maybe if the fee was high enough, she grinned. “Contact me, okay? You know I need the money!”
“Any regrets”, she was asked. Nope, she said. It was a wonderful dream, but now it’s time to wake up.
Carrying bruises to the heart, Ton Hom nevertheless took her high spirits to Instagram, where she vowed to turn the catastrophe into an opportunity and then, with half the world tuned in, did a quick pitch for Lil, the sunscreen she’s paid to endorse.
Anyone else hoping to take similar advantage of the huge online audience was quickly subdued. “Mai rub fak ran,” she mentioned in several posts, meaning “don’t be advertising your products or services in the comments”. “Sao u mai fak ran na,” she added – don’t take liberties with my sadness.
To the many fans expressing support, Ton Hom said she never knew she had so many admirers, “and I appreciate it”. Tack’s own Instagram account was getting a lot of visitors too, with many fans saying they wished he and Ton Hom could stay together, others saying they understood why they split up, and, yes, some blaming him for being “dishonest”.
Again comparing the two former lovers, this time in terms of social-media ratings, Ton Hom would seem to be the more popular as the dust begins to settle. The consensus is that she came out on top just by keeping the story simple – and goosing it up with a little humour.
