Police chief’s story of politics behind protests beggars belief

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 29, 2015

The police chief claims that protests in Myanmar and Thailand over the death sentences handed down to two Myanmar workers controversially convicted of murdering British tourists on Koh Tao were politically influenced.

That sounds like a witch-hunt rather than an effort to discover the facts.
The government should not sit still over this matter. Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha should immediately order an investigation into the allegation that the police did a poor job preparing this case.
This is a case in which both the victims and the alleged murderers were foreigners. The world wants to see that justice has truly been done. As such, Prayut cannot afford to show blind faith in the police.
This is a matter of national dignity. The police investigation might well have been flawed. And, no matter what the outcome of a review of the investigation, truth must prevail.
