Everton, Chang back exhibition to celebrate UK-Thai relations

Everton and Chang Beer have backed a cultural event to promote the long-standing positive relationship between the UK and Thailand.

Everton’s Club Ambassador Graham Stuart recently attended the launch of an art exhibition entitled ‘Thai Spirit’, which was sponsored by the Blues’ main partner Chang Beer and organised by the Liverpool Thai Society, to celebrate the 160th anniversary of the relationship between the Kingdom of Thailand and the United Kingdom.

In recognition of the Everton-Chang Beer partnership and the international anniversary, the art exhibition features original portraits of current and former Everton players and images of traditional Thai architecture and landscapes, created by students of Liverpool John Moores University.

All artwork displayed at the exhibition will be sold after the event to raise money to support the Liverpool Thai Society’s cultural projects and Liverpool- based charity, Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice. To support the fundraising effort, each of the portraits have been signed by the featured player.

Club Ambassador Graham Stuart said: “We are always very pleased to help our main partner Chang Beer and continue to build on what is a very strong relationship. It is great for Chang to sponsor this exhibition and there is some very impressive artwork on display.”

Thailand’s leading brewer’s distinctive logo, depicting two white elephants, has been emblazoned across the front of the Club’s shirt since the beginning of the 2004/05 season, making it the longest-standing current shirt sponsorship in Premier League history, and the perfect example and celebration of Thai-UK relations.

Joanne O’Connell, Chang Beer Sponsorship Account Manager, said: “It is very important for us to support the work of Thai students in Liverpool. It’s amazing to combine Thai culture into our partnership with Everton and see some amazing examples of art.

“The support from the Club has always been there for Chang. Anything we want to do with regards to Thai culture is always really well supported by the Club and, as you can see with the players being involved and their signatures on their images, it adds weight to the artwork.”

The launch event was attended by a host of British and Thai students and a representative of the Royal Thai Consulate Liverpool, Mr. Nicholas Wainwright.

The Liverpool Thai Society was founded in 2001 by a group of Thai students studying at the University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores, to support new students coming to the city and promote the culture of Thailand to local people.
