Re: “SeaWorld pledges to stop breeding killer whales”, World, March 20.

It’s pleasing to learn that SeaWorld has taken a step in the right direction by agreeing to stop breeding orcas. When will zoos follow suit and stop breeding wild land animals? We are well aware that, as a result of confinement, captive land animals suffer in the same way as captive marine animals. This is evident by their obsessive, repetitive behaviour, such as pacing, swaying and head-bobbing. It’s time to move out of the dark ages and acknowledge the fact that all beings crave freedom and all have a right to it.
