Ferrari on the decks

A talented DJ known and respected for her skills on the deck as well as her friendly personality, Russian producer Mari Ferrari touched down in Bangkok this week where she’ll be putting on a show at Levels this Sunday night.

In the business since 2007, Maria Roganova as she’s better known to her family friends, has played all over the world and has a faithful following at some of the biggest clubs in the US and Europe. She’s manned the decks at after-race parties at the F1 Grand Prix in Belgium and Italy and today works with prestigious promoters and producers in San Tropez, Papagayo in Tenerife and the VIP room.

Her recording credits include “Reach Out” with remixes from Jesse Voorn, Daniel Bovie & Roy Rox, Denis Horvat, Martin Shape and Arbre Blass and “What I like” a remix for Deba Montana.

She took time out from her schedule to chat with XP by email.

 

 

What are you up to now? 

This year started in the studio. I’m working hard on a new production.

 

What or who inspired you to become a DJ?

I was inspired by music. Becoming a DJ was the best way to share my feelings with others.

 

What kinds of music did you listen too as a youngster?

As a kid I listened to classic rock but I turned to house music in my teens and I’ve never looked back.

 

How would you describe your style?

My production is more about mainstream sounds but my live sets range from Electro house to Vocal House. 

 

Who’s your idol in the electronic music world?

A difficult one. I’d have to say Calvin Harris and Skrillex 

 

What’s the most memorable party you’ve played at? 

Well, I’ve had many great moments on my way! There’s all great. This is my job. And I love it .

 

The DJ world is arguably male-dominated. Is it hard for a woman to be recognised and respected as a DJ?

That’s a good question and to be honest, there are times when it is very hard. But no one said that life has to be easy. Don’t care about what you can’t change. Just play your music and give the crowd a good time. That’s really all I care out, letting the music win .

 

Is there any female DJ you admire, if any? 

No hesitation here, it’s Nervo. They are great.

“Hello Hello”, it’s my upcoming track!

 

What can we expect at your Bangkok party?
