The Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) Governor Sakon Wannapong yesterday declared former national player Sombat Euammongkol as the new president of the Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand.

The endorsement by the SAT governor is crucial as it finally puts an end to the January 23 election saga where former Thai No 1 Sombat ousted the seventime president and incumbent, Suwat Liptapanlop, 3519, to become the 17th president of the association.
The surprise result caused plenty of heartburns among the existing officebearers. LTAT vice president Tawatchai Samutsakorn immediately submitted a petition to the SAT to annul the results, citing that a few club members were ineligible to vote.

The SAT, after investigating the issue, found Tawatchai’s allegations groundlesss and recognised the election result.

“There’s always been problems regarding presidential elections in sports associations and the competition is getting stronger and stronger,” Sakon said.

“Under SAT, justice will be done. I would like all parties to show some sportsman spirit and not try to win all the time. It would be better that we put our focus on develop¬ing sports. Sports is all about brotherhood and not rivalry,” he said.
