Capitalist democrats have little left to defend
Decades ago I took a vow to defend capitalist democracy, or at least I thought I did, and I truly meant it. How can I defend that if I cannot even seem to locate it anymore?
How can I defend “freedom of speech” if it comes from people so poorly educated that they would destroy their own countries or places of residence with their ill-conceived, ill-informed, half-baked ideas?
The old saying was, “They also serve who stand and wait.” I stand and wait to see who is worth defending, but I cannot defend those who seem to be intent only upon destroying themselves, so I just stand and wait.
There was an old cartoon that paraphrased Mahatma Gandhi: “Where are the people? I am their leader and I must catch up to get in front of them.”
The world now seems too full of such people pretending to lead capitalist democracies, pretending to be Gandhi.
