Thailand would be far ahead if its politicians felt shame

Re: “David Cameron and political integrity”, Editorial, July 4.

I salute the editorial writer for praising David Cameron so much and for the biting comments made about Thai politicians.
Cameron’s resignation after his loss in the EU referendum is not abnormal by British standards. Any taint under a prime minister’s watch always results in resignation, and no nonsense of waiting for the judgement of the Supreme Court.
In 1961 Harold Macmillan had to resign because his war minister, John Profumo, was found to be entangled with a 19-year-old would-be model who was also seeing a Soviet naval attache, causing fears of a security risk. Macmillan was not involved, but out of shame for having picked such a colleague, decided to resign, citing ill health.
If Thai politicians felt the same level of shame, this country would have by now overtaken Singapore economically, because of our natural resources.
But because of our human resources, we remain in the doldrums.
