Military govt does not put an end to corruption

Re: “More context needed before criticism”, Letters, July 18.

I think Khun Vint is suggesting there was no corruption prior to 15 years ago and there is no corruption now. What does he think the three submarines are all about? Thailand needs submarines like it needs home-heating units. What does he think the high-speed train is all about? Thailand’s present rail system is a shambles and the majority of its highways are still two lanes, yet it needs a high-speed rail system? For over four decades Thailand needed national healthcare. Instead it got an aircraft carriers and blimps.
The present government has made the possibility of debate between its citizens impossible, yet who has gone to jail for corruption?
As long as educated men such as Vint Chavala offer their loyalty to people in government who don’t deserve it, the problems in Thailand will continue and other countries will criticise. Thais are great people, but something seems to happen to them once they seize the reins of power.
