Nirun Fires Career Best to Lead in Lampoon

Twenty-one-year-old Nirun Sae-ueng shot an unblemished 61 to steal the limelight during the third round of the Bt3 Million Singha SAT Championship at the Gassan Legacy Golf Club in Lampoon on Saturday.

The young gun from Nakhon Pathom sprinkled his round with 11 birdies to produce a three day score of 21-under-par 195 at the par 72 6,563 landscape.

“This is by far the best score in my career. I set up several good approach shots and putted very well. With the way I’m playing, I start thinking about winning this week,” said Nirun, winner of the Thailand PGA Tour at the Voyage Panorama in Kao Yai,  2014.

Two strokes behind at joint second was veteran Prayad Marksaeng who also had a bogey free day of 63. The 50-year-old is eyeing on a hat-trick with back-to-back wins in Hyogo (Japan Senior Tour) and in Chiang Mai (All Thailand Golf Tour) over the past two weeks.

“Today preferred line rule was used and it did not give me any advantage. I didn’t hit the fairway at all today. I only hit the light rough. If I can hit the fairways tomorrow I can set myself in a good position. The gap between me and the leader is not big,” said Prayad after a total 19-under-par 197.

South Korean Baek Seuk-Hyun, who grew up in Thailand, fired a 65 to also fall two shots behind the lead.

Overnight leader Udorn Duangdecha fired a 70 and a total 18-under-par 198.

“I was unlucky today. After I hit my iron to the three and ended with a bogey on the 13th, I lost my momentum from then on. Maybe it will do me better to chase after the leader,” said the 45-year-old Udorn from Chiang Mai.
