Veteran welterweight Sailom Ardee’s Olympic campaign ended in disappointment yet again following his unanimous loss to France’s Souleymane Cissokho in the quarterfinals of the 69kg class on Sunday.

Needing only one more win to clinch at least a bronze, the 30-year-old, though, was unable to realise his dream of winning his first Olympic medal as the Frenchman mainly relied on throwing combinations throughout the bout before running out as a deserved winner.

Reaching the last eight in Rio de Janeiro, though, was the closest Sailom came to getting his hands on the Olympic medal following his second-round loss in the featherweight class in Beijing Games and the bitter defeat in the preliminary round of the lightweight category in London four years ago.
