“MELODY OF LIFE”, the annual festival celebrating fashion, art and music, marks its 10th anniversary on October 15 and 16, taking over CentralWorld Shopping Plaza and Complex for shows, talks and performances by more than 50 bands and artists on three stages.
“As ever, we aim to be a stage for young people to increase their own assertiveness and show off their abilities,” says Pichai Chirathiwat, the executive director of Central Group, founder of Spicy Disc and the organiser of this festival.
“This year, we have set the theme ‘Futurista’ because everything on this Earth is based on high technology. Today’s young people don’t think about nature or about the loss of our environment. So I wanted to come up with a way of cultivating this awareness in the young.
“In addition to music, there’ll be talk sessions about how to save Earth and our planet and a movie workshop that deals with the environment. We are also holding a band contest, an art workshop featuring T-shirts and caps, the proceeds of which proceeds will go to a remote school, and a sculpture of recycled boxes.”
Vip Buraphadeja, founder of Happening magazine, is in charge of the environmental aspects of the event.
“I’m responsible for the talk session, which will be based on life, earth, our future and innovation. We need to discuss and share experiences with thinkers, writers and the new generation. It will be beneficial to everyone,” he says.
“The first day’s event will be narrated by many people including Khomsan Nanthajit, who is an architect, short story writer, actor and TV host. The second day the focus is on the future and innovation with thinker and story teller Katanyoo Sawangsri leading the session.”
The talk session is divided into four main topics – “Life”, “Earth”, “Future” and “Innovation”. The first topic is about how to live the simple life and will see Pongsuang ‘Note’ Khunprasob of Dudesweet, Jirat ‘Poo” Pornpanitpan of Cheeze/Looker and artist Gene Kasidit sharing their experiences. The second topic covers how to save the environment and will look at environmental models from several countries. It’s being led by Zcongklod “Kong” Bangyikhan, editor of a day, actress Piphat “Top” Apiraktanakorn and Ananta “Kob” Intaraaksorn.
The third topic is about the future, our food and technology and is being led by Wongthanong “Nong” Chainarongsing, a director of Day Poets, Pongsuk “Nui” Hiranprueck, host of a TV programme on technology, and Gai Lai Mitwichan, an expert in nutritional anthropology.
The final sessions will present three successful innovation projects. Speakers are from Ma:D Club for Better Social, visual design company Eyedropper Fill and Anon Chaowakul, inventor of the Refun Machine.
“Today’s new generation bands don’t only show off their musical skills but also their characters and fashion sense. Our band contest will allow up-and-coming outfits a stage to show off their talents,” says Pongsiri Hetrakul, the business development director of Nylon magazine.
“We will support the winning bands after the festival too. The 10 finalists will perform at the event and the top three will be rewarded with the chance to work on a single with a professional producer.”
More than 50 bands will take it in turns to entertain the crowd, among them Tattoo Colour, Greasy Cafe, Apartment Khunpa, Mild, The Rube, The Richman Toy, Lomosonic, Lullaby, Paradise Bangkok Molam International Band, Singto Numchok, Better Weather, DCNXTR, The Parkinson, Brown Flying, Electric Neon Lamp, URBOYTJ, Yellow Fang, Chart Suchart, Helmetheads, Slur, Sriracha Rocker, Desktop Error and Boy Trai.
The Rube, featuring Siwapong Hemwong on vocals, Theerawong Watthanajarupong on guitar, Songpol Srisaard on bass, and Natcharapong Watthanajarupong on drums, gave a brief show at the press conference, playing their debut “I’m Sorry” as well as “Fin”, their new single featuring rapping by Bodin “Pe” Chalermraj, Mild’s vocalist.
In addition to music, the festival will host a Cheeze Market featuring more than 200 DIY fashion booths and food trucks, plus official product booths.
