Patten just a politician who put self-interest first
Re: “HK independence movement slammed by former governor” (November 26)
The above article cited the former governor accusing the independence activists of “making a mockery” of the issue.
Whilst he tempered the remark by saying he was fully behind strengthening democracy in HK, it’s easy to say once you’ve handed over the keys and retreated to the motherland on a very comfortable stipend and knighthood.
He wasn’t so forthright in defending democracy of the colony in 1997, when he oversaw the hand-over to the Chinese, back then believed was best option for the colony to integrate into China without too much regard for it’s inhabitants.
Guess, he just another politician with his own self interest at heart!!
