The online shop is the brainchild of Thepsawarin Tapienthong, winner of the 2012 Talent Thai Award in 2012 for a wristwatch with a wooden dial and a lamp that resembled tree roots.
“I was working as an account executive, but I was also making elaborate ornaments by hand and selling them on Facebook,” she says.
A Silpakorn University product-design graduate helped turn her sketches into a collection of innovative wooden furniture and home-decor items. Her products are minimalist, clean and practical, as well as being small enough to fit in any urban apartment.
Most of them have surprising transformations; for example, the tree root sprouting a lamp, a thumb drive that looks like a polar bar and a pencil holder shaped like a house. She primarily uses pine, ash and walnut wood from overseas, retaining their natural shades.
“My designs are simple,” Thepsawarin says. “I prefer pine and ash because they’re inexpensive and look clean. I’m paying more attention to function lately – I’ve got a wooden bicycle stand that can double as a bookshelf or coat rack. And I’m trying to introduce ‘wired wood’ to the local market, like zebrano, which has a grain that resembles zebra stripes.”
She recently launched a line of 4GB flashdrives shaped like animals as well as wristwatches made from wood quality Swiss quartz movement.
