Science is solidly behind low-fat, vegetarian diet

Re: “Inconvenient and indigestible facts for vegetarians” Have Your Say, April 15.

Thomas Turk can’t back up his attacks against “The China Study” and even notes that it was funded by a reputable organisation. He has no explanation of why there was not a single case of obesity among the thousands of Chinese people studied who were on low-fat plant-based diets, the very diet this clown claims causes obesity!
In the past I have publicly challenged him to show me one study of where vegetarians reversed their heart disease by going on a high-fat, meat-oriented diet. And he couldn’t respond. Yet doctors such as Dean Ornish have reversed heart disease in their meat-eating patients by putting them on low-fat vegetarian diets. Not even Turk denies that.
Dr James Anderson was able to reverse the symptoms of virtually all of his Type 2 diabetic patients to the point where they no longer needed medication. He did this by putting them on a low-fat, near-vegetarian diet. Again, I challenged Turk to cite me any studies of vegetarians who were able to reverse their Type 2 diabetic symptoms by going on a high-fat meat diet, Again, no response.
Finally isn’t it strange that he can’t cite one specific source or name to back up his claim that “tens of thousands” of people benefited from his “fitness” programme? How stupid does he think the readers are?
