World-renowned cellist in concert

Marc Coppey, one of the world’s most-acclaimed cellists, will perform at Alliance Francaise de Bangkok next Tuesday (May 9) alongside the Bangkok Chamber Orchestra conducted by French composer Laurent Couson.

Coppey, who is also French, at the age of 18 won the two highest prizes at a Bach competition in Leipzig, Germany, after being “discovered” by the esteemed violinist Yehudi Menuhin. The maestro invited him to make his Moscow and Paris debuts performing Tchaikovsky at his side.
In 1989 the great Russian cellist Mstislav Rostropovitch invited Coppey to perform at the Evian Festival in France, which proved to be the launch pad for his solo career.
In Bangkok, Coppey will play music by Mozart, Haydn, Dvorak, Gabriel Faure, David Popper and Couson himself.
Tickets cost Bt1,000 (Bt800 for Alliance members and students) at http://AFThailande.org/en/event-en?idevent=417.
Alliance Francaise Bangkok is on Witthayu Road near Lumpini MRT Exit 3.
