Ariya listed as top women’s golfer in the world

Ariya Jutanugarn is officially the new No 1 female golfer in the world, according to the latest the LPGA rankings on Monday. She is the first Thai golfer to top the global rankings.

The 21-year-old finally overthrew Lydia Ko of New Zealand from the top spot following her victory in the Manulife LPGA Classic in Ontario, Canada, on Sunday.
Ariya gained 8.78 points, surpassing Ko, who fell to second with 8.34 points, and South Korean So Yeon Ryu, who closed the top three with 8.17 points.
Last week the LPGA announced that Ariya would replace Ko as the world number one on June 5 – only to learn that it had made a mistake.
Due to miscalculation the Thai trailed the Kiwi by just 0.01 points, so Ariya remained as world No 2, it said later.
However, that slipup did not appear to trouble the young Thai, who sunk a ‘monster’ 25foot putt to win the Manulife trophy on Sunday and claim the top position for women’s golf.
