Foreigners should get out of the Iraq-Syria quagmire

The daily news from every possible source laments on how terrible ‘ISIS’ is.

The old order in Iraq/Syria prior to the US invasion of Iraq was that they were both governed by secular Baathists; Arab nationalists.
Iraq had a majority Shi’ite population but the governing cabinet, especially the security service, was dominated by Sunnis.
Syria was the exact opposite. Taken together this formed a regional ‘balance’ that maintained peace and order.
The US upset this order when they put religious Shi’ite in charge of Iraq.
The disaffected Sunnis who were concentrated along the riverbanks between the two states then created this ‘Islamic State’.
Since 2003 places like Ramadi, Falluja, Tikrit have repeatedly fallen to this same Sunni group dominated by ex-Saddam loyalists, once they are retaken, they fall again a few years later to the same people going by a different name.  Billions are spent each year trying to suppress this and Europe has been flooded with refugees.  Next time the region falls again it’s time to end foreign involvement in this destructive quagmire.
