VIENTIANE - Laos is under no illusions of the tough task ahead but is quietly confident of doing well at the Asean Football Federation (AFF) U-15 Championship 2017 being hosted by Chonburi province, Thailand from July 9-22.

Such is their dedication the U-15 team has been training every morning and evening for the last two months at a live-in camp in preparation for the championship.

The bulk of the 23 footballers in the U-15 squad come from various clubs in the capital and Champassak province and are preparing at the Lao National Sport Training Centre in Huayhong village of Chanthabouly district, Vientiane.

The U-15 team is under the watchful eye of head coach Mr Kanlaya Sisomvang, who is a former player with the national team.

The AFF U-15 Championship 2017 is made up of two groups with Group A comprising Australia, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Indonesia and Singapore, while Group B is made up of Vietnam, Cambodia, Timor-Leste, Philippines, Malaysia and Brunei.

Many local football pundits are pessimistic about Laos’ chances of progression from the group stage citing the quality of opposition in the draw.

During the competition Laos will face Singapore on July 9, Myanmar on July 11, Thailand on July 13, and Indonesia on July 15 with their final group stage match against Australia on July 17.
