Chakansim triumphs at Royal Hill
Khon Kaen-based Chakansim Khamborn beat fellow amateur Arpichaya Yubol by eight strokes to win her first the Singha Classic at the par 71 6,393 yard Royal Hill Golf Resort and Spa in Nakhon Nayok yesterday.
The 17-year-old shot a final 71 for the winning score of six under-par-207 to become the second straight player from Khon Kaen to win the All Thailand Tour after Kamonwan Luamsri, winner of the last week’s stop in Chonburi.
“I’m so excited as I just came back from playing in the US (during summer) and won this tournament. I just tried to play one shot at a time and I finally made it,” said the teenager whose previous title came at the Thai LPGA event at the Bangkok Golf Club in Pathum Thani last year.
However she and runner up Arpichaya who finished with a 72 and a total two over-par-215 were not eligible for the prize money. Third placed Chommapat Pongthanarak, with a 71 and a total 218, walked away with the top prize money of Bt32,000.
In the men’s third round competition, current leader on the tour Order of Merits Panuphol Pittayarat carded a 64 for a combined 15 under-par-201 to take a three shot lead over Kasidit Lepkurte who hit a 67 and a total 204.
