Wave of beauty washes up in Vietnam

Seventy-five beauty contestants from 75 countries recently arrived in Ho Chi Minh City to take part in the Miss Grand International 2017 pageant, which runs from today through October 25.

The girls were welcomed on their arrival by their host with a ceremony at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Centre in the presence of celebrities, VIP guests and media. 
Michelle Leon from the US and the third runner-up in last year’s pageant acted as emcee and invited Tran Minh Tien, chairman of Let's Viet TV channel’s Lasta Multimedia, a sponsor of the event, to give the opening address. 
Tran presented the beauties with the traditional Vietnamese conical hat known as the non la" and the khan ran, the famed black-and-white check scarf.
The contestants showed off their evening gowns on stage and introduced themselves to the audience to loud applause. Miss Indonesia Ariska Putri Pertiwi, who was crowned Miss Grand International 2016 and took home the prize for Best National Costume, also made an appearance. 
The girls wound up the day by participating in a gala dinner. 
After taking part in their 20-day beauty camp, all 75 girls will start to show their national costumes in Quang Binh on October 12 and swimwear the Vinpearl Phu Quoc Resort & Golf. on October 17. The preliminary show takes place at the musical water fountain stage of Vinepearl Land on October 23 and the final on October 25.
Thailand is represented by Thai-Italian Pamela “Pemika”.
