This Agence France-Presse story is fake news at its finest! Let’s start with the missing word in the above headline, which should read “Some Britons...” – ie, the Remoaners. But just a moment... a survey conducted a few weeks ago by pollsters Opinium shows that a majority of Brexiteers now favour “no deal” as opposed to a drawn-out transition period. So the headline could equally have read “Britons ecstatic at failure of exit deal” and I am certainly one of them.
Moving on, AFP make a big deal about a retail group which estimates that Brexit will put 30 per cent on the cost of Parmesan cheese and an average 22 per cent on European food as a whole. The truth is that Britain has been locked into an expensive food market since it joined the EU and the price of both food and clothing will plummet once we are free to replace expensive EU produce with cheaper stuff from the rest of the world, particularly the Commonwealth. This will be of huge benefit to low-income families.
I will leave others to pick over the rest of this blatantly one-sided and deceptive article that has more holes in it than a (non-EU, thankfully) Swiss cheese.
