Perth -  Thai No 2 Jazz Janewattananond is excited about playing the new format for the first time at the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth that tees off on Thursday.

The 22-year-old golfer is enjoying a mini career renaissance. After losing his Asian Tour card for 2017, he bounced back by winning a tournament in Bangladesh in early February. The Thai hotshot went on to finish ninth on the Asian Tour Order of Merit list that year.

Earlier this year, he secured a spot at The Open this year by finishing tied-fourth at the SMBC Singapore Open. Jazz wants to win again and he hopes to do that at Lake Karrinyup Country Club this week.

“I didn’t get a chance to play here last year. I only caught it on TV. I think it’s a very good format. Having new things in golf is always exciting. This will be the first year I’m playing in this event and I’m aiming to get into the top 24, so that I can try the Super 6 format,” said Jazz or Atiwit, the second-youngest winner on the Asian Tour in 2017 after Resorts World Manila Masters champion, Micah Lauren Shin.

“I haven’t tried anything similar before. I’ll just try to make as many birdies as I can and then just not make any mistake,” added the Jazz, hoping to steal the limelight like fellow Thai Pachara Kongwatmai, the 2017 runner-up here.

“The wind is going to affect everyone, especially those who are teeing off in the afternoon. You have to be lucky in the draw, too.

For sure, I want to win more. I have two cards, in Europe and Asia. If I can win in Asia, I can focus on other areas. If not, my focus will remain on the Asian Tour. I’m looking to get a strong base first.”

England’s Danny Willett has recovered from his shoulder injury and he is slowly rediscovering the form that led to his triumph at the 2016 Masters Tournament. While he is not setting expectations on his game at the moment, he will want to do well at the ISPS HANDA Super 6 Perth.

Willett is one of the marquee names amongst the elite field at the tournament that includes compatriots Lee Westwood and Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston well as Kiradech Aphibarnrat of Thailand.

Tirawat Kaewsiribandit of Thailand is feeling physically great and hopes to bounce back after two consecutive cuts prior to the ISPS HANDA Super 6 Perth. He was in serious contention at the Asian Tour season-opener in Singapore, but his tournament unravelled in the third and final round due to fatigue.

The A$1.75 million (approximately US$1.25 million) ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth event, tri-sanctioned by the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia, European Tour and Asian Tour, is proudly supported by the Western Australian Government through Tourism WA.
