I strongly suspect that most Americans believe the “cold dead fingers” mantra.
Having a firearm is a fundamental right.
It is necessary for personal protection.
It is necessary for protection of the country.
It is a guarantee of freedom against government misuse of power.
In some parts of the country it remains a definite need – almost requirement – just for survival.
I have been in the deserts and forests of the US and between the wild boar, snakes, javelina and the occasional puma, believed it was a necessity to carry a sidearm. Even a bobcat (or a moose) can tear you apart.
