Come to think of it, there is one local issue worth worrying about

I agree with Donald Graber, who says Nation letter writers should be covering a lot more topics.

I know a lot of people might not want to comment on the subjects he mentions, which may be controversial and take them out of their comfort zone, but there are plenty of “bread and butter” issues that could be discussed on your letters pages that are of broad interest.
For example, when is Bangkok going to finally get an integrated travel card that covers all forms of public transport? It’s a nuisance to have separate cards for the MRT and BTS, plus coins for buses and notes for taxis.
For decades, many other major cities have had a single card that can be used on trains, buses, ferries and – in some places, at least – in taxis.
A prepaid card to be used in cabs would certainly solve a lot of problems, not the least being keeping the drivers honest by linking the payment system to the meter (with provision for a tip for good service, of course).
Perhaps that’s just a dream too far, but there can be no good reason why all the public transport systems can’t adopt a single card. There has been talk of it for years. Surely it’s time for the authorities to make it happen. Such a card would not only be of great benefit to citizens and expatriates, it would provide a seamless travel experience for tourists, many of whom are used to this convenience in their home countries.
