The roaring success of Phuket as a holiday destination has also meant roaring corruption in many areas of the tourist industry there.
Every year I visit, I encounter the same saga of scams and failure because of the flawed systems and festering corruption around most aspects of tourism. The authorities are blind (or worse) to the graft in Phuket – and that is why disasters take place and will continue to do so.
