On every election day, the Electoral College Delegate holds a power enshrined more than 200 years ago that is still valid today. He or she can reverse the actual winning vote results and vote for the “other” candidate – in other words, the loser.
The historical reason for this lies in the fact that the original republic had 4 million voters spread over great distances.
To transfer the votes to the central authority, horseback was the fastest method. If the saddlebag was lost or the seal broken or anything that looked suspicious was evinced, the Electoral College Delegate could vote as he/she wished.
And the result was final. No appeal.
Therefore could that Electoral College caveat be applied today regarding the November 2016 elections?
The saddlebags were not lost nor the seal broken, but we now know there were some suspicious goings-on.
