Thai athletes told to go ‘faster, higher, stronger’ ahead of Olympics

Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan has ordered Thai sports to strive for greater success on the global stage to maintain the country’s honour.

The order comes as Thai athletes begin preparing for the Tokyo Olympics, which have been postponed till 2021.
Prawit instructed the Sports Authority of Thailand and Thai Olympic Committee to prepare for the return of international competitions as the Covid-19 crisis eases, and boost Thai sports’ level in order to win more titles.
He also expressed gratitude towards Thai athletes and sports officials who have devoted themselves to training for competition despite the Covid-19 lockdown.
Defence Ministry deputy spokesman Col Patchasak Patirupanon said sports were funded under the 2020 government budget.
