Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya received the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic on Tuesday (October 20, 2026). Italian President Sergio Mattarella presented the decoration at the presidential palace.
The Knight Grand Cross is the highest class of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
The honour recognises Princess Sirivannavari’s prominent role in promoting Italian art, culture and creativity internationally, particularly through fashion, design and craftsmanship, which form an important part of Italy’s cultural identity.
Princess Sirivannavari was also recognised for her skill and vision in incorporating Italian knowledge, materials, traditional techniques and the expertise of Italian artisans into her creations.
Italy’s then president, Giovanni Gronchi, sought royal permission in 1960 to confer the Knight Grand Cross on His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great.
