Nene Royal’s historic AGT win sparks over 105m social engagements

Thai rocker Nene Royal generated more than 105 million social engagements during AGT 2026, as positive sentiment grew alongside her historic win.

Thailand’s Nene Royal, the 16-year-old rocker who made history as the first Thai winner of America’s Got Talent, generated more than 105 million social media engagements during her journey through the 2026 competition, according to an analysis by Wisesight Thailand.

Before appearing on America’s Got Talent 2026, or AGT, Nene, whose full name is Rattikarn “Praew” Amloy, was known mainly among tourists and music fans who had seen her busking with a guitar in Phuket.

Her victory transformed her into a national talking point, with Wisesight Thailand analysing social media conversations through its Zocial Eye platform between 6 July and 28 September 2026.

The analysis found 86,084 messages relating to Nene and more than 105 million engagements during the period.

Social media interest developed in three major phases alongside the competition. The audition period from 6–19 July generated 9,744 messages and more than 27 million engagements. During the Golden Buzzer week from 24–30 August, mentions rose to 18,295 messages and more than 21 million engagements.

The championship week from 21–27 September recorded the highest volume, with 35,963 messages generating more than 31 million engagements.

Historic AGT victory draws 21.7m engagements

Nene becoming the first Thai winner of America’s Got Talent was among the most widely discussed topics.

Over just two days, 24–25 September, the achievement generated more than 23,268 messages and over 21.7 million engagements.

One of the most engaging posts was a video capturing the moment Thai viewers waited for the result, while Nene’s performance with Linkin Park before the winner was announced also attracted strong attention.

Phuket busker story generates 26.2m engagements

Nene’s journey from a young busker in Phuket generated the highest engagement among the five main topics analysed.

The story attracted 11,604 messages but generated 26.2 million engagements.

Social media users showed particular interest in footage of her busking at Naka Market, where one viral clip generated about 460,000 engagements.

Her family story also drew attention, particularly that of her father, Narong, a woodcarver who supported his daughter in pursuing her dream. A popular post about him generated more than 702,000 engagements.

Thai supporters rally behind Nene

Messages expressing support and encouraging others to vote generated more than 12.6 million engagements.

The keyword relating to “support” appeared in 8,628 messages and generated 12.6 million engagements, while another term associated with encouragement appeared in 6,964 messages.

Although people in Thailand could not vote because voting was restricted to those in the United States, social media users encouraged Thais living in America to vote on their behalf.

Posts urging Thai residents in the US to cast votes appeared 5,033 times and generated about 6.61 million engagements, reflecting support from Thais both at home and overseas.

Golden Buzzer performance draws 11.6m engagements

Nene’s Golden Buzzer from judge Mel B, which sent her directly to the final, became another major social media moment.

Mel B’s name appeared in more than 1,606 messages during that week, while Nene’s performance of “Black Hole Sun” was mentioned in 6,281 messages and generated 11.6 million engagements.

Social media users responded strongly to the performance, particularly the transition from a restrained opening into a powerful vocal climax.

Images of Nene crying and embracing her father after the performance were also widely shared.

‘Zombie’ launches viral rise

Nene’s audition performance of “Zombie” marked the beginning of her viral rise, generating about 9.41 million engagements.

Online discussion focused not only on her singing but also on the contrast between her youthful appearance and the forceful rock performance she delivered on stage.

The song also connected different generations of listeners, from long-time rock fans to younger audiences less familiar with the genre.

Discussion gradually moved beyond admiration for her performance towards pride in a young Thai artist gaining international recognition, with footage of Nene giving a traditional Thai wai on stage becoming another widely shared moment.

Positive conversations generate more than 51.2m engagements

Wisesight found that more than 51.2 million engagements came from positive conversations about Nene during the monitoring period.

There were 42,609 positive messages, representing 49.5% of all conversations.

The proportion of positive messages rose from 45.2% during the first week of auditions to 59.5% around the time she won the competition, suggesting that positive sentiment grew as she progressed through the contest.

Analysis of the language used in positive conversations also indicated that admiration for Nene increasingly developed into a broader sense of national pride.

Conversations about her “making history” generated 7.5 million engagements.

Wisesight identified three main factors behind the positive response. Moments of success on stage were a major driver, with more than 68% of all positive messages, or 28,982 posts, appearing during the Golden Buzzer and championship weeks alone.

Her Thai identity and Phuket background were also prominent. The term “Thai” appeared in 9,340 positive messages and references to the “country” appeared in 6,410, while her story as a young musician from Phuket generated 26.2 million engagements.

Emotionally driven content also performed strongly. During Golden Buzzer week, 561 messages referred to “tears” and 396 used terms associated with “goosebumps”, while 87.9% of messages containing the word “proud” were classified as positive.

The findings suggest that Nene Royal’s rise became more than a television competition story for Thai social media users, developing into a shared narrative of support and national pride as she progressed from a Phuket busker to the winner of America’s Got Talent 2026.
