Nitirat group's call fails to counter graft and 'human factor'

Re: "A call for accountability", Personality, yesterday.

I disagree with law professor Worachet Pakeerut of the Nitirat group that changing a few laws would cure all our country’s political problems.
The Nitirat group’s call for changing the law to expunge judicial decisions and records resulting from the 2006 coup – without calling for measures for improvement on the part of the human factor – will only solve half of the problem.
My argument is that not all coups are bad. Some were staged in order to put an end to corruption and prevent civil wars. There is good and bad in everything. The problem in our country is that the human factor has become worse and worse in terms of morality and honesty. This stems from more and more business people turning to politics to enhance their own wealth. How can we weed out these self-serving, pseudo-politicians from the system?
Calling for all political players to clean up their act should be every Thai’s primary target for change – not just for changing some laws that could encourage even more corruption and bad politics.
