Before now I have never felt fear regarding freedom of expression. Now I do! I do because of the “Big Brother” syndrome engendered by the seemingly ferocious witch hunt for any and all who should utter words considered (by the watchers and no one else) to be defamatory of the royal institution or any members thereof no matter what the writer/utterer of those words intended them to convey.
Of course, I recognise that there are elements within Thailand who are inimical to the royal institution.
In other countries with royal heads, there are persons who wish to denigrate the influence of such entities. They, like persons here in Thailand, are in the minority and can do no more than make noises in the hope that they will be influential. Thus far, they have failed due to the public’s love and respect for their royal heads of state.
Left to run its course, the current programme by certain misguided persons will, in the end, fail of its own accord.
The above is only my opinion – not an official position of any government or persons who might be considered to have influenced it.
