Neighbours will always interfere

Re: "What price good neighbourliness", Letters, April 4.

It is wonderful and satisfying to read about the philosophical and utopian side of former foreign minister Kasit Piromya. However, there are anomalies.
In politics and commerce, friendship always takes precedence over the common good. In real life, forget the non-interference rule. Even though I’m not a fan of Thaksin, I do not blame his friends going out of their way to help him while being hunted relentlessly by the Democrat-led government through Khun Kasit’s ministry. It was like the film “The Fugitive”, which portrays a US marshal’s devotion in catching Dr Kimble.
Now, Thailand is represented by Thaksin’s party, with an overwhelming majority. Thaksin’s presence in Cambodia and Laos this coming week could hardly threaten Thailand’s government (but is threatening to the reconciliation process). It rather has made the Democrat Party appear foolish for its past deeds.
Indeed, do remember “doing unto others” or, to put it explicitly, “not to do to others that one does not like others to do to one”.
