Brace yourself for a collapse into madness as Sweden’s DJ duo Dada Life enter Bangkok for the first time with a show at LED on RCA. These guys don’t care about genres. They don’t care about “cool”. Dada Life just wants to make us jump and down, and party till the walls come down.
Known for their high-octane live sets, the Dada boys Olle Corneer and Stefan Engblom are one of the scene’s fastest rising acts. Their breakthrough came right away with first release “Big Time” in 2006, followed by “The Great Fashionista Swindle” in 2007, “Fun Fun Fun” in 2008 then the full-length album “Just Do the Dada” in 2009. Clubbers around the world have danced to Dada hits including “Kick Out the Epic Mother—er” and “Happy Violence” as well as their remixes of Alex Gopher – Handguns, Kaskade’s “Dynasty”, Duck Sauce “Big Bad Wolf” and many more. The tunes are constantly reached for by the likes of Crookers, Eric Prydz, Benny Benassi and David Guetta.
Corneer got in touch to share thoughts about the Bangkok show.
How has 2012 treated you so far?
Yeah! This year will be massive for us. We just released the Rolling Stones T-shirt, and soon comes new remixes of “Kick Out the Epic Mother—er”. And then even more singles, and an album!
How did you guys get together?
We met at a chilli cook off. Stefan’s chilli was hot and crazy and we started to talk about music. And the day after we got together in the studio and worked. That became the first release.
What’s the story behind the name?
The goal is to live a Dada Life. But what Dada actually means is up to each and everyone.
What did you grow up listening to?
Everything! Old school techno and rave, punk, psychedelic stuff from the ’60s.
How do you like the electro house scene now?
It's more fun than ever. Everything is okay now. The walls are coming down. We love that!
Who would you like to collaborate with the most at the moment?
No idea. We would love to cook food with Skrillex though. We heard he’s a great chef.
Dada Life has many rules. Why one should “never barbecue before a gig”?
It went bad one time. Enough said.
Why do you like Champagne and bananas so much?
It’s the perfect party combo – bubbly alcohol and enough energy to keep going. Also, bananas never get dirty no matter how crazy the club is.
What’s your most memorable gig so far?
If you remember it clearly, it wasn’t that good!
What’s your ideal party?
Two hours of madness. Afterwards the club should look like it needs to be rebuilt.
Looking forward to the Bangkok trip?
We’ve heard the crowd is crazy so we are really looking forward to seeing the reaction for some of our new stuff. Expect the unexpected!
