Boonsak, Ratchanok fall at first hurdle

Thailand's top players Boonsak Ponsana and Ratchanok Inthanon bowed out in the first round of the Djarum Indonesian Open late on Wednesday night.

Boonsak, still struggling with a lack of confidence that saw him exit early from last week’s Thailand Open, was beaten by Alamsyah Yunus of Indonesia 21-15 21-14. On the women’s side, teenage titan Ratchanok Inthanon was still feeling the effects of her exhausting defeat by Indian world No 5 Saina Nehwal in last Sunday’s final as she faded against Ji Hyun-sung. The South Korean ran out a  21-18 21-13 winner. Thai hopes now hang on the mixed doubles team of Sudket and Saralee Thoungthongkam who were to take on Malaysian eighth seeds Peng Soon Chan and Liu Ying Goh last night. Also, Thai No 2 Porntip Buranaprasertsuk was to take on Chinese fourth seed Xuerui Li.
