Mall thanks Soda for adding spritz

The Siam Centre Endless Legend Party on Sunday – the mall’s see-you-later bash ahead of its four-month closure for renovations – was a memorable night.
Followers of fashion and everyone else who’s loyally shopped there gathered to see top executive Chadatip Chutrakul present a lifetime achievement award to Maynart “Kob” Nantakwang, founder and chief designer of the Soda clothing brand.
Soda embodies the stylish mall. You can’t have one without the other, even if Kob declines to participate in the frequent Fashion Week shows.
“I detest anything that’s structured and systematic,” Thailand Tatler quoted her as saying late last year. “And I would never consider taking the brand abroad either.”
Kob was asked on Sunday exactly how long Soda has been around. “I can’t remember,” she replied, evidently sincere, but said it seems as old as Yahom Tra Tuay Thong – the famous Thai medicine.
In fact, Soda’s shop opened at the Siam Centre 32 years ago, when the mall was only seven years old. They grew up together. And the funny thing is, they both still pull in the younger crowd.

Screen calls
Nichkhun Horvejkul and Sukwan Bulakul make their acting debuts in the upcoming GTH film “Seven Something”, which director Jira Malikool is calling “the best movie I ever made”.
Nichkhun was delighted to hear the appraisal, coming from someone he so admires. “I said yes right away because I really like his work,” he says.
Inexperienced Sukwan is pleased with the project now but didn’t dive right in, taking a month to decide whether to accept the high-pressure role opposite a South Korean superstar. Jira told her, “You never know until you try.” She did and she loved it.
“Nichkhun is excellent. I asked him if he was sure he’d never been in a movie before!” Sukwan also benefited because she had to trim down to play a marathon runner. Check her out on the cover of Praew magazine, posing with Nichkhun. No Photoshop required for either of them.
