Acutely ‘Human’
Veteran sculptor Saiyart Semangern transforms recycled wood and metal into cute sculptures, as seen in the exhibition “Human” at the Sombat Permpoon Gallery until November 18.
In this case, the “Human” is given to love and passion as well as greed and anger. There are couples face to face and figures standing sadly on their own.
Saiyart, recipient of the 2008 Silpathorn Award, is known for his unique wooden sculptures and custom furniture. With these tabletop figures, he aims to make fine sculpture more accessible and affordable for the general public living in limited spaces.

Chest for charity

Clarke travelled to Louis Vuitton’s historic Asnieres workshop on the outskirts of Paris to oversee the design of the 140cm-tall chest, sales of which will be managed by Christie’s auction house. The expected net of US$174,000 will be donated to the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation.
