The pasta will blast ya and the pizzas pack a punch

A young entrepreneur with a passion for Italian food, Ravipatr Raneepaopong recently launched his Live & Dine Bistro at new community mall Thanya Park on Srinakarin Road.

He teases the Thai palate with an interesting fusion of Italian and Thai style dishes that emphasise hot and spicy tastes while offering diners plenty of pasta and pizza pizzazz. 

Ravipatr, who learned how to cook from books and television, used to work as a marketing officer for a Good Fellas Italian and wine bar and that’s where he learned about management and food suppliers. 

He opened Live & Dine two months ago in a modest space on the second floor of the shopping park. The decor is friendly with orange brick walls offsetting the black and white chairs and wooden tables. Customers can opt for al-fresco or the air-conditioned interior, from where they can see the chefs preparing their meals in the open kitchen.

“I love Italian food but like most Thais, I also prefer my dishes spicy. My idea is to offer a combination of both tastes at reasonable prices,” says Ravipatr. “I also focus on quality ingredients, beautiful presentation and good taste. And I’m continuously creating new menus so there’s no chance of customers getting bored.”

Current menu choices include New Zealand lamb and mussels, Norwegian salmon and foie gras. I order a spicy tuna salad (Bt185) and a bowl of spinach soup (Bt90) to start and follow up with the tom yum pizza topped with cheese and seafood, priced at a reasonable Bt149. My companion opts for the spicy ocean citrine spaghetti, which is generously mixed with squid, baby clams and mussels and topped with ebiko for Bt230. 

Other recommended dishes include salmon saab- crispy fried dumplings filled with salmon in spicy sauce for Bt180, chicken confit served with fried mashed potatoes for Bt195 and fried spinach cheese for Bt185. 

We end the meal with a truly delicious dessert of green tea sticky rice with sliced mangoes and coconut ice cream for Bt195.
