The Magnum ice-cream bar, that favourite treat of convenience-store customers, is elevated to gourmet-delicacy status at Thailand’s first Magnum Cafe, which has “popped up” at the newly remodelled Siam Center.
Designed under the concept of “real time indulgence for the pleasure”, the 400-square-metre cafe offers a staggering variety of sweets, all with the Magnum as a centrepiece.
For the launch of the store, presided over by the “king of Magnum”, actor Ananda Everingham, the Magnum Choco-Cappuccino was launched.
A signature dish is the Chocolate Implosion – a chocolate egg with Magnum vanilla ice cream and marshmallow.
For a limited time, the cafe is also selling Magnum-themed accessories, including flash drives and leather iPad cases.
The 170-seat pop-up cafe is open daily until May 31 from 10am to 10pm.
The art of abandonment
Canadian photographer Liam Morgan explores vacant structures in his latest photo exhibition, “Abandon/Decay”, at the Kathmandu Photo Gallery on Pan Road off Silom until February 24.
How something is abandoned dictates the way it decays, posits the Bangkok-based lensman. In his photo series, some objects are found in a state of decay and posed for the camera long after being abandoned. Other objects are introduced into scenes of decay, and purposely left behind in the hope that they will stay there.
Decayed, the objects often lose their symbolic power over the one who cast them off, but not always.
