The pressure is on TV host Patcharasri “Kalamare” Benjamas now that her co-host and good friend Meesuk “Kai” Changmeesuk has married photographer Pongskorn “Kim” Kuldilongchaipat. The last woman standing of the four hosts of Channel 3’s “Phu Ying Tueng Phu Ying” says people are asking when she’s taking the plunge too, “and they always stress that I’m the only one left who’s single!”
Kalamare says there is no “right answer” to the question. “What should I say – that I’m getting married soon too, or that it’s my own business? The best I’ve come up with is, ‘Well, that just makes me unique!’”
But she’s happy for Kai and doesn’t think she was hasty marrying someone she’d only known for two months. “She’s been in relationships before, but not like this time. She told me it felt just right, so I couldn’t see any reason for her to wait.”
And Kai certainly won’t be hit with the usual gossip about having to marry because she was pregnant, Kalamare jokes. “When you’re 40, you don’t conceive that easily!”
Meanwhile Kai reassures her four-year-younger pal that she’ll meet her own Mr Right soon enough. Kalamare’s not so convinced about that, and she frets that her future husband will come under a lot of nosy scrutiny.
Not by us. We promise.
Laotian love
Kai and Kim kept things simple for their wedding last Friday, with only family and close friends present, and rather than being pregnant, they might forego parenthood altogether.
“I think it’s a big burden for a woman to be pregnant,” said Kim. Kai had told him she doesn’t want to have a baby – at least not at first.
They honeymooned in Laos, where they’d agreed on an earlier visit to become an official couple. “Before that trip we hardly knew each other,” Kai says. “We’d only chatted on Line. But I realised while we were there that he’s a good man, so I decided to take the relationship seriously!”
