Inherent value hard to beat

Re: "Why you're wrong about the US dollar", Letters, March 31.

I was lured into reading this letter expecting some gems on why one should still invest in the dollar. It was full of economic errors, none pointing to Khun Thanong’s error, and blind to the American greed that has caused the current collapse of the Western economies. But, as when listening to those shady American evangelists, I nearly push away my breakfast and stand to attention at the sound of the “Stars And Stripes Forever”.
It is with delight that I quote the words of the World Bank (www.worldbank.org/en/country/thailand):
“Thailand is one the great development success stories. Due to smart economic policies it has become an upper-middle-income economy and is making progress towards meeting the Millennium Development Goals.”
Few could trample upon the greatness of America’s tangible and intangible infrastructure that is well entrenched, and which China, with its economic birth only two decades past, is unlikely to replace. Even Chinese leaders admit this greatness. However, as most American economists agree, China will overtake America in terms of national wealth by 2020, but will not in our lifetime attain the great American heritage value.
