Heartthrob Nadech Kugimiya has discovered the one teenager in Thailand who doesn’t know who he is. Or at least 18-year-old Oranate “Richy” D Caballness didn’t know him until now.
Richy co-stars with Nadech in the latest “Khoo Kam” remake. “I’d seen his face all over, on TV and in advertisements, but I had no idea that was Nadech,” she says.
Badminton is the reason she was in the dark. A national champion in 2011, she’s been too busy honing her skills. Then talent agent Supachai “A” Srivijit spotted her, and with free time amid university studies, she agreed to give acting a try.
Richy’s petite size and distinctively Thai look appealed to director Kittikorn “Leo” Liawsirikul, and the next thing she knew, she was face to face with that face from the TV ads. “He helped me a lot with my acting,” she says.
Well, not everyone’s thrilled with her performance on screen, but Richy hopes people will give her a break. “I’m very shy and I’d never acted before in my life!” Athletes are trained to keep their emotions in check, and now she has to lay them out for the cameras.
Devotion repaid
Talk about being tight with your fans! Actress Patchrapa “Aum” Chaichue recently hosted a giddy party with a temple-fair atmosphere for 200 members of her fan club. It was a celebration of Aum snagging her millionth Instagram follower and she spent more than Bt1 million on the bash.
Aum, her boyfriend Pitan “Amp” Ongkosith and her agent Supachai “A” participated in fun-filled temple games with the mob. “It would take too much time posing for a photo with everybody,” Aum said, but she did have snaps taken with the 12 fans who won one-baht gold chains, and Amp cheerfully posed alongside many in the crowd. “He has his own fan club!” Aum reminded his admirers.
How’s Aum going to top this when she reaches two million Instagram followers? Maybe she’ll give away a free house, she joked.
