E-Bike - the way to go for Thailand

A recent trip to a southern Chinese province opened my eyes when I saw the number of electric bikes and tuk-tuks on the road.

Here are the real pluses about having an e-bike in China: they are cheap (only up to Bt15,000); there is no registration or insurance fee; no licence is required; they are very cheap to run and environmentally friendly; and they can be secured by means of a wheel clamp/lock.
The traffic around town moved noticeably slower than it does here. Although the traffic was typically chaotic, I didn’t witness any serious incidents due to speed. It made me wonder why these vehicles are not on the roads and promoted here?
So, come on Thailand! Follow China’s foresight, and the environment and populace will be the winners!
