She's too sexy for our country

The hot pants that Suteewan “Baitoey” Taveesin wears when she’s singing luk thung music at home and abroad are a little too hot for Damrong Thongsom, deputy director-general of the government’s Department of Cultural Promotion. He got all steamed up at one of her sexy shows in Khon Kaen and told reporters she was hurting Thai country music’s good image. Check out the music video for Baitoey’s “Rak Tong Perd (Nan Oak)” and see if you agree.
Baitoey certainly doesn’t. She’s fuming about being “picked on” when plenty of other luk thung performers get scanty onstage. And why isn’t Damrong directing his umbrage at her label, R Siam, instead? “I dress and dance according to each album and song’s concept. It’s not fair to blame me alone,” she tells ASTV Manager.
She also points out that she’s earned plenty of fans in Malaysia, Taiwan and Japan, which is surely good promotion for Thai culture as well. And she’s not taking off her hot pants no matter how nicely Damrong asks. “When I’m older I won’t be able to wear short shorts, but I can still wear them now!”

Bird flies ‘home’
All the hints that Thongchai “Bird” McIntyre has dropped about appearing in his first TV series in 14 years have ended up as confirmed news. He only needed to imply that he was interested in a comeback on the small screen for TV producers to deluge him with offers. He hasn’t chosen one yet, but he will definitely be back on TV next year.
“I really want to do this for all the fans who’ve asked me when I’d return to television,” he says, jokingly telling the press to be kind to him as a “newcomer”.
Before charting his way to superstardom as a singer, Bird was in a Channel 3 series in 1983 and then, with “Khoo Kham” on Channel 7, set a ratings record that still stands. The obvious next question is what show he’ll choose – and then which actress!
