Changing Senate is against spirit of bicameralism

Having senators and MPs coming from different set-ups allows us to have two different bodies to deliberate and pass laws. One body is supposed to represent the people, and one is supposed to represent the state.

Ideally, this system of bicameralism keeps one side from becoming too powerful. Bills that are produced are done in such a manner as to best represent the will of the people as well as that of the state.
Even in the US, the election methods and terms in office of senators and congressmen are not alike.
Hence, the Pheu Thai Party’s push for senators to come from direct elections – in the same way as MPs – is tantamount to turning against the democratic principle of bicameralism.
Why not cancel the senate chamber altogether?
