Hundreds of thousands gathered to oppose the “I’m-not-my-brother’s-puppet” government’s attempt to pass a blanket-amnesty bill. We have truly seen the power of the people, but at what cost?
Storming into state offices and hindering officials from performing their duty is illegal. Many will say the mob has gone too far this time and lost credibility. This activity will damage the country in many ways, especially its economy and tourism. Several countries have already issued travel advisories to citizens visiting Thailand. We should have learned the lessons of 2008 and 2010 on how political uproar can hit the economy.
I agree with citizens exercising their rights and expressing their opinions. However their actions should stay within the bounds of the law and not hurt the country in any way.
